Monochromatic Black – Vehemence
Founded in New York in 2018, Monochromatic Black (MB) is a relatively new band that made a name for itself with its first EP, Pneuma, and since then, they’re constantly touring and working on new stuff. They’ve released a new EP, Vehemence, in July and I think it deserves an introductory piece.
I’m not the biggest fan of name dropping when introducing an underground/new band but sometimes its the best way to capture the attention so here it comes: If you’re into bands like THE AGONIST or JINJER, I’m sure it’ll be much easier to comprehend and like whats going on with Monochromatic Black. However, there is more to it and I think MB is more brutal and aggressive than the bands mentioned. I love Tanya Elizabeth’s deep growls and the guitarwork is quite dynamic and proggy at times.
The amazing bass lines on the Specter and Blood Rush, dynamic double bass drumming and down-tuned heavy chuggings are all the stronger aspects of the band, and Heritage itself is the culmination of what they’re capable of. Its a mid-tempo banger with ball-breakingly heavy break-downs and killer vocals. And if you’re into more melodic stuff, Lovelorn is a great closer with melodic clean vocals and leads.
In the arts of sonic violence, Monochromatic Black became a big force with its extreme roots, balanced melodic/brutal approach and unique vocals. Vehemence shows the band is now more experienced and quite comfortable in its element, even more than before. So make sure to check it out, it deserves it.
