Seven – Interdimensional Act III: Shadows In The Sky
Seven is a Las Vegas based solo writing/recording project, created by Brad Tuttle in 2001. With 6 full-length under his belt, Seven established a fresh brand of modern alternative metal. His early works can be considered as the preliminary example of djent and songs like Skyline Divided has accumulated over millions of streams and views. Now, Seven is back with its 7th record called Interdimensional Act III: Shadows In The Sky, and Seven once again shows its ability to craft modern metal that can appeal both underground and mainstream metal enthusiasts.
Bands like MESHUGGAH, TOOL, NINE INCH NAILS and DEFTONES are obvious inlfluences here and we have a rich selection of songs with groovy rhythms, proggy sections, modern synthwork and emotional vocals. Rift is an early standout with dynamic drums, groovy chorus and aforementioned emotional clean vocals. This style might not be for extreme guys, but it definitely works. Fans of alt. metal bands are surely enjoy Brad Truttle’s vocals. I especially enjoyed the harsh vocals, which are not really dominant here, and wish to hear more of those angry rasps. Songs like The Simulation are much more proggy and has really intricate guitarwork. Anomaly includes a great atmospheric synth./bass combination on the first couple of minutes, felt like an action game soundtrack.
Interdimensional Act III: Shadows In The Sky is a solid record with many elements and although a tad long, it delivers. As an extreme metal lover, I’d prefer more aggressive vocals but even those short bursting moments provide the tension Seven needs. Trimming some parts, adding faster drums and more organic production can be mentioned as minor criticism but overall, this is a good record. If you’re into mixing progressive/djent songwriting with alternative metal vibes, Seven offers quality time with Interdimensional Act III: Shadows In The Sky. Check it out on Spotify or YouTube.
