PostHumanX – Fear Reigns
I enjoy the bands combining dystopian atmosphere with electronical/industrial elements whilst keeping everything else quite brutal. PostHumanX is a crushing deathcore band from the SF Bay Area in California. They stand out with a cutting-edge sound built on elements of deathcore, metalcore, and tech-death. “Unsettling” is the keyword to desribe their atmoshpere, and musically they deliver a solid deathcore salvo, throwing some tech-death and electronicals to create a deeper narrative.
Fear Reigns is the debut record of the band, featuring 10 songs with 26 minutes of technical precision and post-human dystopian atmosphere. Ivan P.’s deep growls and agonizing shrieks are the only human element of the record; every other instrument is dedicated to deliver a mechanical, groovy, somewhat disturbing chaos. I really enjoyed the pulsative core that is the center of the songwriting here. Guitarwork is a mix of djenty, meaty chuggings (Project Nile) and haunting little bits of melody (Grid of Flesh), layered with dazzling synthwork. Double bass drumming sometimes feel repetitive but in a good way (Binary Devourment). I’m not the biggest fan of speech samples or clean vocals, but even those are fine here since they’re integrated well and works with the overall flow & atmosphere.
PostHumanX is a band deserving to take a look under the hood and if you’re into dystopian tech/groove/industrial deathcore with a strong sense of rhythm, Fear Reigns is one of the better records you’d find in 2025 so far.
