Demolyn – Slay the Godhead
Demolyn is a one-man black/death metal project, hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden. Oscar Medblom is responsible from everything, and although there is no official forming date, debut record came out in 2022 so its safe to say this is a relatively new project. Demolyn started with a more old-school black metal approach, but now shows some evolution with mixing groovy death metal riffs with black metal; there is a fine balance between chuggings between tremolos, and blast-beats between stomping 2/4 grooves.
The following EP to the debut has this dynamic balance, and showcases how Demolyn crafts each song as a self-contained tale, immersing the listener in a dark, vivid, and atmospheric mythic narratives as well. A Slay the Godhead released on February 7th, 2025 and contains 5 tracks with a total of 20 minutes of aggressive, vibrant black/death metal songs. The EP features Fabio Alessandrini (Annihilator, Bonfire, Enforcer) on drums, and this time it got a professional production push too. The rawness on the debut was fine, but Demolyn now has more volume, a meaty sound which works great with the infusion of death metal ideas.
Chek out Warwhores for a more 80s approach with old school riffs and how Demolyn operates under 2 minute mark. In contrast, following Misery, Rain Over Me is the mammoth of the EP. This 7-minute-long epicness with guitar harmonies, atmospheric transitions and furios blast-beats is the main reason why I’m hyped up by the way. Demolyn knows its craft, and I’m eagerly waiting for the sophomore record now. Until then, I’ll visit this lightning in a bottle EP more often than not.
