RustFed – Voracious

Striving to create an atmosphere that is as intense, aggressive, and brutal as possible within the boundaries of death metal, RustFed observes a technical precision in its songwriting while pushing extreme boundaries. The band reached out to me ahead of their debut album, Voracious, set for release on December 12th, and immediately grabbed my attention with its intricate approach and clever songwriting within short track durations. With elements of technical death metal, melodic death metal, deathcore, and even groove and djent all finding their place in RustFed’s tracks. This elegant songwriting maintains a high level concentration throughout therecord.

There are many highlights and examples of the ingenuity and variety of Voracious, ranging from the absurd, random flourishes between the choppy riffs of Husk and the bass guitar’s wayward antics, to the death/black-leaning blast-beat sections of the track Warm Teeth, and the heavily syncopated drumming that supports the more modern-sounding riffs of Looming. My personal favourite, for now, is probably Platonic Smile. A magnificent rhythmic backbone has been established in that track, and the staccato main riff idea is, in my opinion, quite creative.

If you are looking for a death metal/deathcore blend that wraps things up in around 30-35 minutes, and manages to sound simultaneously rhythmic, technical, melodic, and utterly savage without resorting to repetition in any track, then you can save the date for Voracious on December 12th. Nice to meet you RustFed, keep up the good work.
